SciFi Question:

Are you a closet Trekkie? Dr. Who-ite?

Cara:
I like Star Trek, the original and the Next Generation TV shows and the movies, but I don’t consider myself to be a Trekkie. I do think that the original Star Trek TV show was quite bold in dealing with social issues of the day.

Cynthia:
I’m very open about my love of Star Trek. My entire Operation Erotic series is devoted to my fervent love of Data from The Next Generation (grins). I’ve only been to one Star Trek convention however and I’m ashamed to say I wasn’t in costume. My Klingon is very weak also (Worf!!! Woof!). I love Star Wars! Han Solo was my first movie boyfriend. I chirped like R2-D2 for months after seeing the first movie, driving my dear wonderful mom insane. Dr. Who was my first taste of Sci-Fi and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

A.M. Griffin:
Trekki for sure. I don’t watch the old Captain Kirk ones, I like Captain Picard. I think I’ve seen every episode numerous times, but just to make sure I never miss an opportunity to watch one. Captain Picard has a certain authority about him. It might be that tight suit, his bald head, his accent or jus the way he says “Engage”. Whew!

Lolita:
Dr Who. All the way! Some nights, I'll click onto Netflix or Amazon's Instant Video and just stream episode after episode while I write. I'm a huge, HUGE fan of the Shakespeare episode where Dr. Who takes Martha Jones back to Elizabethan England. There's this witch running loose, only she's actually an alien, and….I'm rambling. Anywho. Fantastic show!

"I'm telling you, man, this is a mistake," Steven said.

Brett glanced at his brother, annoyed. "Mom said the same thing to me earlier." The wedding was scheduled to start in less than twenty minutes, and he was going to take his place at the altar to wait for his bride. Once he took his spot, he looked out at the seated guests.

Steven put his hand on Brett's shoulder. "We all know the woman you should be marrying is sitting out there," Steven nodded, "fourth pew back."

Brett's gaze landed on Amy, who was talking to his mom. Amy looked gorgeous, as usual. She said something to his mom, and then laughed. The sight of her smiling face made him smile, until he realized that he wouldn't get to see her like that very often anymore. "Amy and I are just friends."

Steven laughed. "Stop wearing your ass as a hat and open your eyes. Amy King has never been just your friend."

"That's real nice, Steven." Brett sighed and shook his head. Marrying Vanessa wasn't a mistake. It wasn't. And Amy was just his friend. He was doing the right thing by marrying Vanessa. Wasn't he?

"I'm your brother. I don't want to see you make a mistake."

"Exactly. You're my brother, which means you should support my decision. I love Vanessa. I'm going to marry her."

Steven shrugged. "If you say so."

Brett turned and glared at him. "And you decided to have this conversation with me now? Ten minutes before Vanessa will be walking down that aisle. Nice timing." He went to run his hand through his hair, but stopped, not wanting to mess it up. Vanessa hated when his hair was messy. She said it made him look sloppy, as though he didn't care. Amy never seemed to mind though. In fact, she laughed at him every time he messed up his hair. He sighed and turned back around to look out over the pews. His gaze once again wandered to Amy.

"It's not like you've been around much. It’s been kind of hard to talk to you," Steven muttered.

He was right. Brett had been occupied with Vanessa and pulling the wedding together in such a short amount of time. "I know. Sorry."

They were silent for a few moments before Steven leaned close to Brett's ear and whispered, "It's not too late, Brett. You can still call this off."

Big Cocks & Broomsticks Blog Hop

I'm still buzzing from Romanicon 2013. It really was one of the highlights of my year to date, an occasion where I got to meet a bunch of people I'd only ever met over the internet, made some new friends and caught up with old friends I hadn't been in contact with for a while.

Bio:

I live in Northern NH, in my hometown. I have enjoyed reading and writing since I was a young child and wrote poetry since I can remember. Through my school years, I took every opportunity to take a literature or creative writing class. I worked in finance for 28+ years until Feb. 2012 when the company downsized and I lost my job. The opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream of writing a novel came about when a Facebook friend encouraged me to try after reading a couple blurbs I spit out upon being asked some advice! I took my vivid imagination, my gift of words which I attribute to God, and wrote my first novel Another Man's Treasure. Jude looked in the rearview mirror at the old farmhouse. He loved that old house where Grandpa Joe lived, where he was raised and eventually where Jude was raised. The town named the road after Grandpa Joe because at one time he owned most of the land surrounding it. He sold off parcels of land to local folks who wanted to build homes and start families. He loved family above all else, especially his grandson, Jude. Before he died, he gave Jude the deed to the farmhouse. Dr. Charlotte James had been watching the arrivals board in the Iqaluit airport for some time. She was so focused on arrivals she didn't even notice the people coming and going around her. A watched pot never boiled, or so the old saying went, but she couldn't help it. This was probably the longest she'd ever stood still. In her job there was no time to stand still. In fact, she hated it. She could be doing so many other things. Filing, for instance.

Not that she particularly liked filing. She preferred her organized chaos. However, there were a ton of files on her desk, and Rosie had been pestering her for a week to put them away. Instead, she was waiting here for his flight to arrive.

"Flight 207 from Ottawa now arriving at gate three."

The past, when it came to Dr. Quinn Devlyn, was where it needed to be: firmly locked away. She'd moved on and she had no doubt his life had, too.

He was, after all, at the top in his chosen specialty, and she was right where she'd always wanted to be.

This time Quinn Devlyn wouldn't blindside her or suck her into some crazy off-kilter distracting, albeit passionate, love affair.

Her life was good. Not perfect but, then, whose was? Charlotte was happy. Courage.

She spun around and saw the plane taxi in on the small airstrip, blending in with the stark, white landscape of Canada's High Arctic. The only color out there was the brightly painted houses that dotted the landscape. Her pulse thundered between her ears.

The pit of Charlotte's stomach dropped to her knees. No. Scratch that. Make it the soles of her feet. Not since her MCATs had she felt this way, as though she was perpetually on the verge of hurling.

She was seriously beginning to doubt her sanity in bringing her ex-fiance up to Cape Recluse. It wasn't a place where she could avoid him easily. He'd be constantly underfoot and she was dreading every moment of it. Would she be able to resist him? The only time she had resisted him had been when he'd left. When their relationship had ended, she'd never wanted to see him again, but his presence here now was a price she was willing to pay to help out her friend. Get a grip on yourself.

A blast of cold air shook her from her reverie. Her gaze focused on the tinted windows, watching the passengers head across the tarmac to the warmth of the bright yellow airport building. Immediately she picked Quinn's form out of the group of passengers.

Tall and broad, even though he was huddled down under his collar against the cold. Just the sight of him made her heart beat a little bit faster, her cheeks heat and the butterflies in her stomach go crazy. Her pulse thundered between her ears like a marching band. She hadn't seen him in five years--not since he'd walked out on her--but he was making her feel like a giddy teenager again.

Don't let him affect you like this, Charlotte chastised herself. She'd moved on with her life. The wound he'd left in her heart had finally healed.

The double doors opened and he stepped into the airport, moving to the side to let more people in from the frigid cold. He set down his luggage and unwound his scarf.

Damn, he still looks as good as ever. Charlotte had been kind of hoping Quinn's fast, career-driven lifestyle would've caught up with and aged him, but he looked as sexy and charming as ever.

Even from a few feet away she could see there was a bit of gray around his sandy-brown temples, but it suited him. Made him look more dashing and debonair.

Loving Dangerously Scavenger Hunt and Hop

Space. The final frontier.

I guess from that quote you can guess my favorite sci-fi series. I'm a Trekker and have been for a long time. My favorite of all the franchises is Star Trek, The Next Generation and my favorite character? Worf. He started out as the on-board barbarian, so to speak, but his story arc just kept getting better and better. So many layers to that warrior soul! *sigh* I still love him.

And the thing with that series is that so much of what was science fiction in the original series, and even some of the newer ones, is now science fact. Such forethought is, in my opinion, what makes for really good science fiction. As a reader or viewer I want to be able to imagine what is happening could actually become reality, allowing me to immerse myself in the book or show. There was a joke back in the 90's, when the series Babylon 5 had fans as rabid as we Trekkers are. Someone said the difference between the B5 fans and Trekkers was that while Babylon 5 fans thought that world could someday exist, Trekkers knew Star Trek was real, and I thought to myself it was so true. There were times when my personal life was so difficult I would simply transport myself onto the Starship Enterprise and live there for a while, having adventures and (of course) winning Worf's heart with my mixture of strength and compassion.
