By the time they learn that she is Lady Kathryn Weston, and that her attacker is none other than her betrothed, Robert Walford, the powerful and ruthless Duke of Pemberton, it is too late. They have both fallen in love with her and she with them—a love so forbidden it could cost them everything, even their lives.Bent on revenge, Walford uses his power as Chief Magistrate of the Crown to issue two arrest warrants, one charging Kathryn with attempted murder, the other charging Nicholas with high treason. For years he has been abusing the authority of his office by bringing false charges of treason against loyal knights and confiscating their wealth to finance his scheme to overthrow Edward and seize the throne of England.
