Excerpt

“We should walk and let the men discuss business. I have been told that there is a lovely path to the water from here; we could walk on the beach.”

I didn’t feel as though it was my place to tell her that a walk along the beach in the winter was not all that pleasant. Not much was lovely in the winter. I stood and went with her; if this was what Jennot wanted, I would not ruin it for him. Marie and I walked a ways in the cold before she said anything.

“Your stitches,” she said, “so neat and tidy on the other men, but noton Jean-Mark?”

“He will not let me take my time with him,” I said with a laugh, “He wants to pretend nothing hurts him.”

She nodded as if what I said was important, “Where did you learn to stitch?”

“My father is a sail maker. I can stitch anything,” I told her. It was a source of pride for me.

“Good,” she said. She fell quiet for a few moments, and then she told me, “We can use that. The team takes care of its own. Jean-Mark will be paid and given a job for the off-season; you will be given a home in Halifax. And we will find you a home for the summer. It will be safer than this,” she said with a sweeping gesture to the sea, “My father was taken by the sea,” she added in a quiet voice.

“Jennot’s was as well,” I told her. “Do you love him, or is he just the closest boy?” she asked me quickly. She had turned and was looking at me fiercely.

About Lea Barrymire

Lea lives in Western New York with her hubby, three children, and miscellaneous critters. Before the rugrats, she lived a life of adventure, following her husband all over Europe with the US military. She’s slept in a car outside Paris, drove six hours just to see tulips in the Netherlands, and knocked ash from her shoes at Pompeii. Now she spends her time in life’s adventures at soccer games, PTA meetings and school plays.

Lea has loved reading from a very young age, spending many sleepless nights devouring books. Science fiction and paranormal were her favorite genres to read as a teenager, and that love bled into her adult life. She started writing during a bout of insomnia, to fill time, and found it filled a creative void. Now she communes regularly with the characters in her head and tries not to laugh out loud when they say something funny.

When Lea isn’t reading, writing or corralling kids, she enjoys watching movies and sciencey shows, or just kicking back and listening to some music.

Excerpt:

Dominick knew the moment that she started feeding off his energy. The magical pull was slight but still there in the back of his mind. He couldn’t stop from smiling when her face finally relaxed and a beautifully peaceful look descended. She’d been distant and cool when first materializing in his mind. Now that he was feeding her, he could feel her loosening up, releasing some of the control she had on their session and her mind.

Moving his hands up under the dress was a taste of delicious torture. He could feel her smooth skin under his palms, feel her heat, but could only imagine what she looked like. Were her legs long enough to wrap around his waist if he hoisted her against the wall? Would they look pale against his tanned skin? Did she have any freckles on her ivory skin, or was it creamy and unblemished? He groaned, his imagination fueling his thoughts, feeding his desire to unwrap her like a present. He wanted to push the fabric off her legs and catch a glimpse of the prize he was after, but the longer he waited the better it would be.

He watched her face as he stroked both hands up along her legs. He stopped at her knees and skimmed his palms back down to her ankles, lightly running his fingers over her skin. He grinned as she shivered under his ministrations. He did the circuit again, up slowly along the outside of her calf then back down to her ankles. The feel of goose bumps under his touch made him want to shout in triumph. She was reacting to the session even if she didn’t want to.

Monday, already???

Wow, I had quite a weekend. I finally got notice to take my citizenship Oath on Canada Day (July 1st, for the uninitiated!), Sable, the new pup, tried to pierce my ear (LOL!) and I struggled with my WIP, where the characters have insisted, vociferously, to NOT follow my original outline. *sigh* But, more important, and exciting, (not than the citizenship part, but the rest) was an invitation to join the Beyond the Veil Blog http://paranormalauthors.blogspot.ca/ where they discuss all kinds of amazing, interesting and timely subjects, with a paranormal slant. I’m so looking forward to working with the amazing authors there.

I’ve also been busy booking guests for the blog, including trying to rope in some of my fellow Pricked series authors to come let us know about their exciting upcoming books. There’s a chat on the EC chat site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ellorascavechat/ on July 21st to celebrate everything inked. Hope you’ll join us!

With the upcoming releases I’ll be buzzing around the blog-o-sphere too, so I’ll post updates as I know where I’ll be and when. There may be give-aways, naughtiness, and I can almost definitely promise shenanigans…I’m really good at shenanigans :)

Here's a picture of Sable, looking deceptively calm, and my daughter's foot for your viewing pleasure. Have a great week everyone!
