Bio:

When Jayne Kingston was growing up she spent many hours daydreaming about a time when she could flee the too-small town in Ohio where she grew up and run laughing for the sunny West Coast. Of course she stuck around and raised her family in that small town instead, and doesn’t regret it for a moment. Now she spends her days dreaming about the delicious fun two people can have while falling in love.

Jayne Kingston Interview

In your opinion, what makes a great hero?

In any type of story and in any type of situation, I want my heroes to react with integrity when they’re challenged to do the right thing. Even if he starts out as the most self-centered, self-serving creep on the planet, I want it to be their first gut reaction to be to step up and run into the face of danger. Bold fearlessness goes a long way with me.

Do you prefer strong women for heroines, or the ‘damsel in distress’ type?

You know, my first reaction to this question was “Ugh. Damsels.” And then I stopped to think about my stories and realize I write them quite a bit. I got a kick out of writing Bree in Cupid’s Choice because she’s sort of a reluctant damsel. She’s extremely independent for the most part—until she finds herself in a situation where she needs to be rescued, that is. And it was too much fun that she wasn’t especially thrilled about the hero on hand at the time.

Do you have anything in common with your characters?

I sneak a little something of myself into my characters here and there. I’m sure most writers do. Slipping in a belief here or a principle there not only adds another facet to the character, but it helps me, the writer, connect with them in a personal way. Especially if one of my characters has a vastly different personality from mine, which most of them do.

Having superficial things in common with them helps as well. Rachel from Key Party used to be a massage therapist on a cruise ship—when I was a massage therapist years ago I toyed with the idea of working on a cruise ship once my kids were grown and out of the house. ALL of my characters drink coffee—I can’t live without the stuff.

What item, or items, is absolutely necessary to your writing mojo?

I have a drawing of a hand with a finger pointing—think Uncle Sam and “I want YOU!”—that’s pinned to the corkboard above my desk. One of the writers in my Saturday morning group always points her finger at all of us when it’s time to stop chatting and start working. That drawing reminds me to get my butt in my chair and write, no excuses.

I also have a framed quote from Dita Von Teese that says “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches” that helps me keep things in perspective.

What’s the strangest (neatest, coolest, etc) thing you’ve ever done?
Back when my oldest was just a baby my husband and I stayed with friends at a cabin they had on a small lake up in Canada. We had to take a boat from a dock to the cabin itself. It had no running water or electricity and the outhouse was something out of a bad dream. (Seriously. The spiders that lived on the ceiling were the size of plums, I swear.) We ate fresh fish cooked on an open fire every night and bathed in the lake, and one night we got to see the Northern Lights, which were both eerie and spectacular. It was the most amazing vacation I’ve ever been on.

What are you currently working on, or what’s on the horizon?

I’m currently working on a short story to tie up one last loose end in the Mischievous Matchmaker series. I kind of left someone hanging, and I tried to tie his story up at the end of Luck of the Draw, I really did, but then someone twisted my arm and I *had* to write this last book. (Just kidding. She said she “would like to read” so-and-so’s story and I caved. I’m so easy.)

After that’s finished I’ll be getting back the series that has spun off last year’s Ink Lust.

Luck of the Draw: Book 3

Blurb:

Turnabout is fair play. Or maybe karma is a bitch is more fitting.

Wanting to repay the favor she did for them, Petra’s friends throw her a key party to help her move on from a months-old heartbreak. While she is not interested in falling in love again, getting her stunted sex life back on track doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

Except someone sabotages the key drawing before she gets her turn. Instead of spending the night with the ultra-hot doc her friends intended to “accidentally” set her up with, she winds up drawing her good friend Alex’s keys instead.

A night with Alex is coveted among players. Petra quickly finds out the reality of Alex far exceeds his legendary reputation. The moment they kiss they discover a chemistry so combustible it’s positively nuclear. Instantly engulfed in a red-hot haze of passion, neither of them sees it coming when Petra’s ex returns, repentant and threatening to ruin their newfound happiness.

EXCERPT:

"I'm telling you, man, this is a mistake," Steven said.
Brett glanced at his brother, annoyed. "Mom said the same thing to me earlier." The wedding was scheduled to start in less than twenty minutes, and he was going to take his place at the altar to wait for his bride. Once he took his spot, he looked out at the seated guests.
Steven put his hand on Brett's shoulder. "We all know the woman you should be marrying is sitting out there," Steven nodded, "fourth pew back."
Brett's gaze landed on Amy, who was talking to his mom. Amy looked gorgeous, as usual. She said something to his mom, and then laughed. The sight of her smiling face made him smile, until he realized that he wouldn't get to see her like that very often anymore. "Amy and I are just friends."
Steven laughed. "Stop wearing your ass as a hat and open your eyes. Amy King has never been just your friend."
"That's real nice, Steven." Brett sighed and shook his head. Marrying Vanessa wasn't a mistake. It wasn't. And Amy was just his friend. He was doing the right thing by marrying Vanessa. Wasn't he?
"I'm your brother. I don't want to see you make a mistake."
"Exactly. You're my brother, which means you should support my decision. I love Vanessa. I'm going to marry her."
Steven shrugged. "If you say so."
Brett turned and glared at him. "And you decided to have this conversation with me now? Ten minutes before Vanessa will be walking down that aisle. Nice timing." He went to run his hand through his hair, but stopped, not wanting to mess it up. Vanessa hated when his hair was messy. She said it made him look sloppy, as though he didn't care. Amy never seemed to mind though. In fact, she laughed at him every time he messed up his hair. He sighed and turned back around to look out over the pews. His gaze once again wandered to Amy.
"It's not like you've been around much. It’s been kind of hard to talk to you," Steven muttered.
He was right. Brett had been occupied with Vanessa and pulling the wedding together in such a short amount of time. "I know. Sorry."
They were silent for a few moments before Steven leaned close to Brett's ear and whispered, "It's not too late, Brett. You can still call this off."

Big Cocks & Broomsticks Blog Hop

I'm still buzzing from Romanicon 2013. It really was one of the highlights of my year to date, an occasion where I got to meet a bunch of people I'd only ever met over the internet, made some new friends and caught up with old friends I hadn't been in contact with for a while.

And one of the big surprises of the conference was, along with all my fellow authors, winning an award from Ellora's Cave for our Fondled and Gobbled series! It really was a thrilling moment.

The Cabal of Hotness, left to right: Lea Barrymire, Cristal Ryder, Piper Trace, Sasha Devlin, Cassandra Carr, Amy Ruttan, Justin Whitfield, me, Cara Carnes, Danica Avet, A.M. Griffin, and our wonderful editor/publisher Raelene Gorlinski.

Of course, getting hugs from may favorite Caveman, Rodney, and the new Alpha Caveman, De Angelo, were also highlights LOL! Which red-blooded woman would pass up opportunities like these?

Yeah... that was all kinds of awesome!

So, in honor of the wonderful memories, I'm giving away a copy of either Fondled and Gobbled, Someone Had To Do It, or Fondled and Gobbled, One More Slurp-- winner's choice. Just comment on this post for a chance to win, and be sure to visit all the other blog stops for a chance to win one of either a $100, $50 or $25 gift card for Amazon or Barnes & Noble! Bio:

I live in Northern NH, in my hometown. I have enjoyed reading and writing since I was a young child and wrote poetry since I can remember. Through my school years, I took every opportunity to take a literature or creative writing class. I worked in finance for 28+ years until Feb. 2012 when the company downsized and I lost my job. The opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream of writing a novel came about when a Facebook friend encouraged me to try after reading a couple blurbs I spit out upon being asked some advice! I took my vivid imagination, my gift of words which I attribute to God, and wrote my first novel Another Man's Treasure. Admittedly, I fell in love with my own characters and continued their story with my second novel Undiscovered Treasure.

I write romance/erotica and at some point in the future want to try my hand at paranormal and adventure/action. My biggest inspiration is my sister Jennifer. She has stood behind me all the way and given me so much emotional support. Along with her, I have some amazing friends who I refer to as "my cheerleaders". They keep me motivated along my writing adventure. When I am not writing, I have to admit I am an electronic junkie. If it has a push button, I either have it or want it!

Jude Delaney…A dark haired Adonis with a slightly kinky side. He fell in love with a red haired beauty in high school, only to have her torn from him and sent away. Miranda, his first love…his only love.

Ross Guthrie…A tall, sexy man who carries a gun. Jude’s best friend from college. More brother than friend. Ross now works for the FBI and his assignment sends him to Jude’s hometown…to protect Miranda.

Miranda Jones…A sassy red-head. She takes charge of her life and runs from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Hank Castile. Leaving California behind, Miranda moves back home…and right into Jude’s loving arms. Two best friends…Both determined to protect this woman at all costs. Will Jude and Ross have what it takes to save Miranda from Hank Castile…the man who abused her and now wants her dead?

Excerpt:

Jude looked in the rearview mirror at the old farmhouse. He loved that old house where Grandpa Joe lived, where he was raised and eventually where Jude was raised. The town named the road after Grandpa Joe because at one time he owned most of the land surrounding it. He sold off parcels of land to local folks who wanted to build homes and start families. He loved family above all else, especially his grandson, Jude. Before he died, he gave Jude the deed to the farmhouse. His Grandpa’s words stayed with Jude all these years. “Jude, don’t ever sell this parcel of land. Keep it in the Delaney family.”

True to his word, Jude kept the farmhouse, moved in right after college and made the necessary repairs. The house was pretty big for a single guy, but if it was important to Grandpa, then it was important to him. After all, Grandpa Joe had raised him since he was 12 and he owed his life to him. Memories of Grandpa Joe always brought a smile to Jude’s face. Lost in thought, Jude flew past the Jones’ house at a rate of speed that would have brought a hefty fine if he had been caught.

Who the fuck is that? Looking over his sunglasses in the rearview mirror, he saw a redhead amidst a cloud of dust and dirt yelling obscenities and flailing her arms.

Excerpt:

Brent’s grunt brought Jared back from his thoughts. Brent was the polar opposite of Jared—probably why they made such good friends. He was stuffy and immaculately dressed, tidy and organized. Jared was none of those things. He was the heart and soul of the pair. He was the messy, unorganized romantic. Brent was the planner and the brains of the operation.

“You’ve known her for, what, two hours? Already you’re in love? Damn, man, this was the fastest yet,” Brent sneered. He raised his eyes off the newspaper for a moment, then shook it out, delving back into its pages.

“Shut your face. You’ll see—just wait. You’re gonna go ga-ga over her nerdy perfection.” Jared threw his head back against the chair and sighed. “I can’t wait to get her between us, man. She’s a little shy now, but I can feel the fire just under her skin. And the best part? She loves what we do. You should’ve seen her talking about her old man and the trips they used to take. She was almost vibrating with the joy of it all. I can’t wait to get her in a stream and watch her face as she hooks the first beast.” He groaned and closed his eyes. “I’m gettin’ hard just thinking about it.”

“You’ve got it bad.”

“I know. Just be nice when she comes down, okay? Don’t do the normal grumpy-puss that scares off all the females. Don’t you want to find someone? I mean, we’ve talked about kids and life beyond bachelorhood.” He slowly raised his head and found Brent staring. “Don’t you want that happiness for us?”

“Of course I do. We’ve talked this to death. But wishing for a girl and finding one are two different things. Just because you want to find a woman to stay doesn’t mean that the next one who shows up single is going to be her. You need to stop throwing your heart out there.”

“And you need to stop keeping yours caged. How is anyone supposed to fall in love with you if you’re grumpy and surly all the time?” Jared could feel his anger mounting. “I can’t do all the work, dude. If we’re going to find someone to love us enough to stay, you have to be willing to try too.”

“You don’t think I try? Really?” Brent sat up. “Who do you think puts you back together every fucking time you get your heart stomped on? I watch you fall for these girls I know are only out to get laid. But you do it anyway, time after time. What am I supposed to do? Fall for them too so we can be bawling women after they leave?”

About Lea Barrymire

Lea lives in Western New York with her hubby, three children, and miscellaneous critters. Before the rugrats, she lived a life of adventure, following her husband all over Europe with the US military. She’s slept in a car outside Paris, drove six hours just to see tulips in the Netherlands, and knocked ash from her shoes at Pompeii. Now she spends her time in life’s adventures at soccer games, PTA meetings and school plays.

Lea has loved reading from a very young age, spending many sleepless nights devouring books. Science fiction and paranormal were her favorite genres to read as a teenager, and that love bled into her adult life. She started writing during a bout of insomnia, to fill time, and found it filled a creative void. Now she communes regularly with the characters in her head and tries not to laugh out loud when they say something funny.

When Lea isn’t reading, writing or corralling kids, she enjoys watching movies and sciencey shows, or just kicking back and listening to some music.
