Blurb:

Landry Michaels, lead enforcer for the KinKaid pack has a secret. Well…make that more than one. He’s in love with the alpha’s sister, Rosa, and his best friend, Kaleb. Wouldn’t be so bad if having either of them was in the realm of possibility. Landry’s past, and his present, contain one too many stains, making him a bad fit for the pack’s beauty. And when it comes to Kaleb… The fact the male is straight is only the beginning of why he’s “hands off”.

Kaleb Dalton is a male who has it all. A great family. A job that allows him to work every day with his best friend, Landry. Everything should be great, right? Except for the fantasies about his partner that plague his days, and the desires for Rosa that taunt him in his dreams at night. Two people, if he had half a brain, who should not be on his short list for lovers. As a male who’s earned his reputation as a player, settling down with Rosa is out of the question. As for Landry…? Kaleb’s heterosexual, born and breed from one of the top families in the pack—so what the hell is the other male doing in his daydreams?

Ever since she was a little girl, Rosa Kinkaid has had Landry and Kaleb’s attention. But it was never anything serious. They were friends. Besides, there has always been plenty of time for her to choose a lover—a mate. Her family needed her, and they came first. Until now...

Rosa's going into heat.

But that's not their only problem. The KinKaid and Gregorson pack are on the verge of war. And there are long-buried family secrets, feelings, and hidden desires rising to the surface along with Rosa’s heat. Some will be shocking and others more disturbing than any of them are prepared to handle.

Excerpt:

Hated her body’s betrayal by how quickly it became aroused, especially these past couple of weeks. Her heat was rising too soon. Yet, whether she was ready or not, Rosa wouldn’t be able to hide her condition or refuse the desire to mate for too much longer. But until then, she would fight its lure with every ounce of resistance she could muster. And for as long as possible.

Her mate would be chosen when Rosa deemed it time, not because she was forced to do so by lust.

“What’s going on?” Rosa asked, finally able to kick her diaphragm and voice box back into action. “Is Evin okay?”

“These two ransacked the alpha’s home earlier,” Landry stated. “We caught them before they managed to cross back over to their grounds.”

Rosa growled and shot the thugs a look that said she was about two seconds from clawing their eyes out if her twin was harmed. “And my brother?”

“He’s fine.” This time Kaleb spoke up. “It was Mason he was concerned about. He’d gone missing, and for a while there, Evin believed these bastards had him.”

“Oh, my God.” Rosa closed her eyes. Evin had to have been frantic. His distress must have been what she’d sensed while she was sleeping, and why he’d been too distracted to answer her call. She lifted her eyelids and fixed her gaze on the enforcers. “But he’s okay as well?”

Kaleb nodded. “Mason just got home. Doesn’t look as if his absence had anything to with these two.” He gave a slight yank on the Halo. His prisoner snarled and grasped at the stricture around his throat. “When we left, it looked like the alpha and his mate were about to have a serious…talk—if you know what I mean.” Kaleb gave her a lopsided grin and tugged on his prisoner, towing him forward to the enforcer’s SUV.

“Probably not the best time for a visit,” Kaleb added as he made his way around her.

“What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?” Landry shoved his captive in the same direction Kaleb had traveled.

Question:

What is the name of the weapon Landry uses to subdue his prisoner?

Retrospective... a.k.a. WTF?

For some reason I woke up this morning and immediately thought, "One month until my birthday." Why? I have no idea! After all, once you get past about twenty-one birthdays just aren't as exciting anymore- and I'm waaaaay past twenty-one! It's not even as though this one is a "Big" one either, although it's one of those that make you kind of realize a "Big One" is just around the corner.

Having started out that way, I then seemed to get on a track of looking back. My son will be twenty this year. We've lived in Canada for ten years. My mother has been gone for thirteen-and-a-half years. All these things make me shake my head in wonder. Where did the time go? How did it fly by so quickly?

And how come I still feel like twenty-one (or maybe twenty-five at the outside) most of the time?

Well, I can only hope the latter fact remains with me a little longer, but all of this retrospective makes me want to quote Latin. Stuff like "Tempus Fugit" and "Carpe Diem", because sometimes when you look back you not only wonder at the speed of time passing, but also realize there's a lot more that could have been done that wasn't.

Of course, that Latin impulse may also have been brought on by being immersed in writing the second in my historical/paranormal novellas, tentatively titled Lion's Need, which is set during the days when Julius Caesar was seizing power. Research being one of my favorite things, you can imagine a great deal of time is being spent looking up facts and doing that one-site-to-the-other web crawl that can really suck a chunk of time out of the day. Now, with all that looking back stuff, I'm tearing myself away from the web and putting my nose to the grindstone! Don't Fugit the Diem, but Carpe the Tempus and finish the story, is what I'm telling myself. After all, I'm not getting any younger!

My Take on A.J.'s Angel by L.A. Witt

I’m a L.A. Witt fan…let’s just get that out there. I like her style and the flow of her books and, most importantly, I like her characters. The situations they’re in read as realistic to me—I can totally believe their emotions and understand why they do the things they do.
So, already having read a couple of her books that I enjoyed, I couldn’t resist buying A.J.’s Angel. Here’s the blurb, so you understand why:

Tattoos fade with time. Emotions never lose their edge.
Luke Emerson is the last person Sebastian Wakefield expects to see strolling into his tattoo shop. But Luke’s not back after four years to take up where they left off. Not even to apologize for the cheating that broke them up.
Luke wants a custom tattoo, a memorial for someone known only as “A.J.”. Much as Seb would love to tell Luke to take his ink and shove it, he’s a professional. Plus, he’s reluctant to admit, he wouldn’t mind getting his hands on Luke again. Even if it’s just business.
Once Luke’s in the tattoo chair, though, Seb finds himself struggling with all the anger and resentment he thought he’d left behind—and those aren’t the only feelings reignited. Their relationship may have been turbulent, but it was also passionate. Four years clearly hasn’t been long enough for the embers of that fire to go cold.
A few subtle hints from Luke is all it takes to make Seb consider indulging in some of that physical passion. It shouldn’t be that tough to keep his emotions from getting tangled up in sweaty sheets.
After all, it’s not like he’s in love with Luke anymore. Right?
Product Warnings – Contains two exes who shouldn’t want each other like this, steamy ex-sex they shouldn’t be having, and a whole lot of ink.

Ex-lovers! Betrayal! The hints that what poor Seb thinks he feels may not be all there is to the story, even four years along. How could I resist?
I’m glad I didn’t.
As always, L.A.’s stories are equally as full of emotion as they are scorching hot. And one of the things I really like about them (and I don’t know if other readers feel this way) is that in the end, sometimes there aren’t any cut-and-dried answers as to why people do the things they do. I love getting lost in a fantasy world, but it’s the realistic touches that truly, for me, bring them to life. Sometimes people do stupid things for no good reason, then they have to deal with the fallout.
Seb’s internal dialog is spot on…that little voice that we all experience telling us, “Don’t fucking do it!” That little voice we all too often don’t listen to. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes bad, but I found myself shaking my head in sympathy as Seb battled with his tangled emotions.
To this point I haven’t met a L.A. Witt book I didn’t like, and A.J.’s Angel is no exception. If you like hot M/M romances with realistic situations and both heart and a few LOL moments, give A.J.’s Angel a read. You won’t be disappointed!
